About Us

Stirks Family Butchers was founded in 2010 by John Stirk, when he bought the local butchers he had worked for as a boy, where he became a butcher at the age of 16. John was just 24 years old when he bought Davidsons Butchers in Sunderland. Stirks have continued to grow and has seen off tough competition from Supermarkets by John focusing his business model on providing quality, affordable produce aimed at feeding families.

Stirks ethos is that they want to save people money so families can affordably sit down and eat a quality meal together and the money they save could allow them to have a family holiday or meal out.

Stirks delivery service has been running successfully for a few years now, delivering to local towns and villages. In 2019 after a high demand to deliver further afield they launched their national delivery service.

Stirks have attracted attention from local and national press with their quirky sausages, such as Rhubarb and Ginger Gin and Sweet Chilli and Irn Bru flavour. There Sausages named after local Sunderland AFC players have also been a huge hit locally. They also appeared on the Netflix show "Sunderland Till I die" showing their passionate following of the club.

John still remains at the forefront of Stirks and employs his two brothers Adam and Stephen who make sure everyone who comes to Stirks always get the same "Stirks experience"
